I haven’t been posting anything in awhile because i got a job, but as soon as get into the swing of things I’ll start posting again.
What is Spirit Day?
Millions of Americans wear purple on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying. Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan as a response to the young people who had taken their own lives. Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag. Getting involved is easy — participants are asked to simply “go purple” on October 20 as we work to create a world in which LGBT teens are celebrated and accepted for who they are. Learn more & go purple at www.glaad.org/spiritday.
We’ve got no reservations about supporting such a meaningful cause, and want to encourage you to consider going purple tomorrow! If you do, post a picture with the tag #purpleteachers.
I’ll be wearing purple tomorrow. Will you?
This story makes me physically ill, perhaps because these are the type of people i take care of everyday at work, and i know what wonderful people they can be.
No one deserves to be treated this way, but especially not someone who may not know that they are being wronged.Evil’s not a word I use often, but…
Terrible, terrible.
But this is where I need to point something out.
THIS is one of many reasons why the R-word is not ok whether referring to objects, able-people, or disabled people.
It contributes to the mentality of some people that it is ok to make fun of or treat poorly handicapped people.
So, no, it’s not just a joke, and no I don’t care if you didn’t mean it like that.
This is so wrong. My brother in law has downs, and its a horrible thought to think their are people out their that would do this to sweet people like him.
I had an ask box request for studying abroad scholarships and I filled it :) I’m kinda proud of myself. Don’t mock my pride.
This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving GLBT student who aims to participate in a high-quality, rigorous education abroad program:
The “Courage to Grow Scholarship” was created to help students realize their college dreams. We don’t want the college dreams and plans of so many young men and women to get lost in the financial shuffle. It takes a lot of determination and courage to forge ahead when sometimes it would be easier to give up. With the “Courage to Grow Scholarship” we strive to help students achieve their higher education goals. By taking away some of the concerns such as “how will I pay for college”, students can concentrate on their education and focus on the task at hand. Today’s economy is hard enough on a family, it is our desire to ease some of the financial burden that a college education can put on individuals and their families. One scholarship is awarded per month. Final candidates will be selected 1 week after the application deadline.
This scholarship is exclusively for students intending to transfer to a new college or university to finish their 4-year Bachelor’s degree. All current US college Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors are eligible to apply. The scholarship will be paid the first semester that you enroll at your new university.
